The first scenes of ‘Las Pelotaris’ were filmed in a quiet residential neighborhood in San Diego Bay, California, in search of one of our protagonists. One of our most emblematic players.
The filming of our documentary began in September 2014, several thousand kilometers away from where the original idea was conceived: we traveled from our homecity of Pamplona in the Pyrenees, in Navarre, to Los Angeles, in the USA.
From California we went down to Mexico to film during the 17th Pelota World Championships, held in the city of Zinacantepec, next to Mexico DF.
Finally, between December 2014 and January 2015 we returned home to Navarre to complete filming and close the story in the same Basque landscapes where it was originated.
Although this documentary film was always a humble project, always we were ambitious in the narrative terms. Very soon in our journalistic investigation stage, we found scenarios and people, which were remote and distant geographically but close and connected by the same story of illusion, energy and passion for the same sport. So, narratively connected. And it was absolutely necessary see and hear them together in our film.
